I trained as a workshop teacher in England in the 1960s, taught for several years at various schools ending up as a deputy principal. In 1979 I moved to the USA and helped start a business importing British crafts to sell at a retail outlet in Boston. A few years of meeting crafts people and seeing their wonderful work gave me the itch to do my own thing. Since then, until recently, I have been involved in custom cabinetry, architectural woodwork and antique restoration.
At 72, in 2016, lifting sheets of plywood and heavy cabinets became unmanageable and I turned to the miniature chairs which have been an interest of mine for some time. It keeps my brain ticking over, my body active, and gives me great pleasure. My hope is that my chairs will give others great pleasure too.
